HSS/HBW2 Maintenance Information at the end of FY2024

The Data Science Infrastructure HOKUSAI SailingShip (HSS)

HSS will continue to operate at the end of the fiscal year, but only the online submission system (hss-desk) will be stopped during the following period for the end-of-fiscal-year update.
HSS VMs, shared storage, OpenStack management console, etc. will not be stopped.

Service suspension period(hss-desk): March 31, 1:00 p.m. to April 2, 10:00 a.m.

After the service resumes, we will start accepting applications for new project use and point purchases for FY2024.

The Supercomputer HOKUSAI BigWaterfall2 (HBW2)

HBW2 will undergo maintenance at the end of the fiscal year, so all services will be suspended for the following period.

Service suspension period: March 31, 1:00 p.m. to April 2, 10:00 a.m.
*All jobs that have been submitted as of 1:00 p.m. on March 31 will be deleted.

After the service resumes, we will begin accepting new project applications and other applications for FY2025.

HBW2 RIKEN project users are required to submit a usage report.

Accepting period

If you do not submit by the deadline, you will not be able to use the supercomputer.

Data Science Infrastructure (HSS) and Supercomputer HOKUSAI BigWaterfall2 (HBW2) and Data Science Infrastructure(HSS) will be stopped in the schedule below due to the planned power outage in Wako campus. At that time, regular maintenance will also be performed.

Downtime(HSS and HBW2):
From 5:00 p.m. on October 11 to 1:00 p.m. on October 16

For HSS, please stop VMs (instances) before the service is stopped. Any VMs that are running when the service is stopped will be forcibly terminated. In addition, snapshots cannot be taken starting from 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 10.

VMs will not start automatically after the service is restarted, so please start it by yourself. Also, if shared storage or other operations are not working properly, please try rebooting the system once.

For HBW2, note that job execution control will be performed before the downtime: Jobs that are expected not to end until the start time of the downtime will be not started. After resuming operation, the unstarted jobs will be started.
